This
year is the diamond jubilee of Queen
Elizabeth II marking the 60th anniversary of
the accession to the throne upon the death
of her father King George VI. Today she is
the constitutional monarch of 16 out of the
54 sovereign states within the Commonwealth
of nations.
This summer there
will be fireworks and parties across the
country. Highlights will be the equestrian
display at Windsor Castle reflecting the
Queen's love of horses and the greatest
river pageant the world has seen for
centuries, with a flotilla on the Thames of
more than 1,000 vessels, with Her Majesty
travelling on the royal barge.
In this year of the Olympics it
is expected that the celebrations for the
much loved Queen's will be celebrated though
out the world and especially the
Commonwealth.
